From Excess Baby Weight to Fitness Figure Finalist

After my 3 girls were born and having to take a lot of medication, I had hit my heaviest weight. Returning home to Ireland, I had tipped away and gotten back to a healthy weight through riding horses and an active lifestyle. The horses then ended and so I joined a local gym loved it and soon wanted more. I completed my gym instructor and personal trainer education and loved supporting others to achieve their goals.

I took an interest in natural bodybuilding and knew I needed a trainer and went to visit Roger, where he asked me 3 simple questions – was I able to follow a plan , take direction and ready to work hard. From that day Roger coached me into the best shape I had ever achieved. The key factors to this was his commitment not only to my training plan but my wellbeing, we weren’t just numbers or memberships in his gym. He was invested, and that drove use to invest in ourselves and our gym mates and we all achieved greatness.

I competed at regional and national level over 3 years, coming 3rd at the RIBBF fitness figure nationals, and 2nd at the RIBBF Miss Cork competition. I made it to the final round in every event I competed in and couldn’t have done it without the knowledge, advice and support from Roger and team at the Master Trainer Initiative.

Common Questions

What does it take to go from a busy mum of three to a national level bodybuilding competitor?

With Michelle it always came down to three things I ask every new client before we start: can you follow a plan, can you take direction, and are you ready to work hard. She said yes to all three, and that commitment carried her from her heaviest weight after having her girls to standing on stage at national level. It was never about the numbers on a membership card. I was invested in her wellbeing as much as her training, and that is what drove her forward.

How did Michelle get back to a healthy weight before starting bodybuilding training?

She rebuilt her fitness gradually through riding horses and staying active after moving home to Ireland, then joined a local gym and loved it straight away. That early momentum is what led her to complete her own gym instructor and personal trainer education before she ever came to see me about natural bodybuilding.

What results did Michelle achieve competing in natural bodybuilding?

Over three years of competing at regional and national level she took third place at the RIBBF fitness figure nationals and second at the RIBBF Miss Cork competition, making the final round in every single event she entered. That is a serious return on the work she put in.

Can you really start competitive bodybuilding after having children?

Michelle’s story proves it. She hit her heaviest weight after having three children and used that as the starting point, not an excuse. With the right plan, the right direction and the willingness to graft, age and stage of life are not the barrier people think they are.

What makes coaching at Master Trainer Initiative different for someone starting from scratch?

I treat every client as a person first, not a membership number. Michelle’s transformation came from a plan built around her, honest direction, and consistent support through every stage of her competition prep. That is the same commitment every client at MTI gets from day one.
