Bodyweight Fitness Tests

See how fit you really are!

Want A True Assessment Of Your Fitness Level?

Starting in June 2026, we will be running outdoor bodyweight fitness tests.

Based on military fitness testing,  there’s no equipment involved, but it’s a strenuous test nonetheless. Each test will consist of 3 parts:

  1. An aerobic 1.6km run
  2. Bodyweight strength tests (pushups, air squats & burpees) x 6 rounds
  3. Fastest aerobic run – 2.2km

There will also be occasional race events split into novice and elite categories. All events will be listed on this page, so be sure to check back and see when suits you for your test and prep for the competition if you’re interested in that.

All events will take place at the Showgrounds in Clonakilty, dates and times for each event are listed below.  Any questions about the test, just get in touch

What To Expect From The Test

The test is designed to be tough and to push you to your limits. To give you an idea of what to expect, we put one of our coaches Shane O’Donovan, a seasoned triathlete through the test.

Here’s some of his stats:

  • Total time 28:33
  • Heart rate starting section 2 170bpm
  • Max heart rate during section 3 185bpm

We asked him afterwards how he found it:

“Well paced overall – stayed controlled early and kept enough in reserve for the final run. First run was slightly conservative; probably room to push the pace next time. The squat, press-up and burpee order worked well and allowed good recovery between movements. Key to the circuit part was finding rhythm. Heart rate was high going into the second run, but effort stayed controlled by maintaining focus and avoiding backing off. Should push it more for the 2nd half of the last run next time.”

“Areas for improvement: increase the intensity slightly on the 1st run, get the rythythm going right at the start of the circuits not half way through. Push the pace more for the 2nd half of the last run. With all that you could knock off 1-2 minutes”

This should give you an idea of what to expect, but if you have any questions before taking part, just reach out and ask. We’ll be conducting one round of tests each month for June, July and August and then following it with our first BFT race in September where we will have 2 categories – novice and elite to cater for all fitness levels. We’d recommend doing one of the tests to get your benchmark, then follow whatever training programme you’re doing and join us for some fun and competition on the race day in September.
